It’s a dress very much with summer in mind. The fabulous designer, Cheryl from Sew Can Do, who we have featured many times, has made this sewing tutorial so you can make the Maxi Dress in ANY size. So why not make a new Maxi Dress that’ll look gorgeous and feel fantastic?
This dress is the perfect dress for hot summer days and is easy to make. And by using soft cotton spandex knit fabric, as recommended by the designer, the dress has terrific drape and stretch too.
The simple-to-make gathering at the neckline, elasticized waist, and tie shoulders mean it’s very adjustable and works well on all body types.
What you will need to make a Maxi Dress:-
- 1-yard* of cotton spandex knit for the main fabric,
- 1/4 yard* of cotton spandex knit for the hem fabric,
- Elastic thread,
- 3/8″ wide elastic,
- Pressure-sensitive paper-backed fusible tape (the designer used 1/4″ and 1/2″ widths),
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
* This amount of fabric will make up to a kid’s size 8.
