This is a sewing pattern that is great for a confident beginner. The pattern comes in a number of sizes from 0 months to 6T. Like all of this designers patterns, you will print and cut out the pieces in your size.
The designer has the following to say regarding the fabrics to use. For the body, sleeves and hood you should use a knit fabric and she recommends a medium weight jersey, interlock or stretchy french terry. If you use a regular sweatshirt fleece it may be difficult to get it over the child’s head. You will need ¾ of a yard for sizes 0-3 months to 2-3T and 1-yard for sizes 3-4T to 5-6T. For the cuffs, hood lining and pocket lining again you should use a knit fabric but this time the designer recommends you use a medium weight, cotton/elastane blend jersey. She says a rib-knit will work as well. You will need ½ a yard for all sizes.
You will obviously need a sewing machine and an Overlock machine / Serger would be great but if you don’t own one, you can use a small zig-zag stitch in place of the serged seam.
