How To Make A Girls Shirred Dress – FREE sewing tutorial
|
Here’s your chance to get a great FREE sewing tutorial for a Girl’s Shirred Dress!! It makes a fantastic summertime dress that can also be used in the Spring and Autumn.
The designer, Chelsea of Sew Simple Home, made this lovely dress for her 5-year-olds wardrobe. You can download the FREE sewing tutorial at the end of this post. She made her daughter this adorable Shirred Dress along with a tutorial for some leggings, which again she provided to all of us for FREE, which you can download HERE.
Chelsea says her Girl’s Shirred Dress looks super comfy and it is a lot less expensive than purchasing the pre-shirred fabric at your local fabric store. If you want to learn to make your own shirred fabric, it is actually a lot easier than you’d think. Chelsea’s favorite part about shirring her own fabric is you get to choose whatever pattern, color, or print you want. You aren’t limited to what is already in the store.
So what is shirring? Shirring is gathering fabric using an elastic thread. Your top thread is a regular thread but the thread inside your bobbin is an elastic thread. You stitch several rows this way and then take the iron and steam your seams. The elastic shrinks and you have gorgeous shirred seams. It’s as she said – much easier than it looks! So why not get shirring right away once you’ve watched this short, less than one-minute, YouTube video tutorial.
