What’s needed to make a Gym and Dance Shrug:

You should make sure that your stretch fabric has at least a 75% stretch factor in both directions. These fabrics can also be called dance fabric, swimwear fabric, 4-way stretch, or 2-way stretch. A cotton/Lycra blend makes a really nice shrug sewing pattern. The Lycra content will help it keep its stretch after energetic moves and multiple washes.

Swimwear elastic is good quality, firm woven elastic that won’t rot with sweat. It’s important that you don’t use cheap stretchy elastic as they generally give a stretched-out look to the edge of your shrug.
