We love to find you good FREE patterns and tutorials here at Sew Modern Kids.
This one today is the Piped Pocket Skirt. This pattern, which you can download below, is for an infant skirt, and the designer has tried to size it to be about a 3-6 month size, but it could easily be adjusted to fit a larger or smaller baby by adjusting the length and the amount of elastic gather.
This skirt has real pockets, so it’s a great sewing tutorial if you’ve never sewn them before. Babies usually won’t be needing functioning pockets though, so you can sew on the decorative buttons through all layers to keep the pockets from opening and keep them neatly in place.
What you will need to make the Infant Girls Piped Pocket Skirt
- 1/2 to 3/4 yard of fabric. The designer used corduroy. 1/2 yard would usually be enough but if you want to be safe go for 3/4 of a yard, especially if making it for a larger size
- One package of maxi piping
- About one yard of trim of your choice
- 6-8 buttons
- 14″ of 3/4″ non-roll elastic
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sewing machine.
