They are quick and easy to make and are part of the designer’s Basics line of patterns so they’re made even easier by super thorough directions (if you need them!). This project is great for beginners and seasoned sewists.
The Kids’ Rachel Knit Pants pattern features:-
- Shorts or pants with elastic waist.
- Shorts can be hemmed or have an optional ruffle.
- Pants can be hemmed or have one or two rows of optional ruffles.
The designer says that the Rachel Knit Pants will be your go-to pants for kids, it’s just that simple. Once you’ve made one pair, you’ll realize how quick and easy this project is and you’ll soon be making several more! These are a great addition because they can be made for boys and girls and they’re sure to please everyone!
As far as fabrics are concerned the designer has the following comments to make. This pattern requires a 2-way or 4-way medium-weight knit fabric with at least 25% horizontal stretch. Lighter cotton lycras, brushed poly, french terry, cotton interlock, and thermal knits are all good choices. Heavier weight fabrics and those fabrics with higher spandex content will work but will give a tighter fit. Any knit that meets the stretch requirement will work, but may not give the same results. Extra fabric may be required to match patterns or stripes or if you need additional length. You may need less yardage for smaller sizes using non-directional fabric.

Your downloads will include a professionally drawn pattern with trimless pages and layers. The pattern pieces included are formatted for 8.5 by 11, A4 (typically outside of the US), and A0 printers. Please remember to NOT use the A4 pattern unless you are located outside of the US and own an A4 printer and A4 paper. The A0 pattern is specifically designed for large format printing. You have permission from 5 out of 4 Patterns to have this pattern printed at your local copy shop.
