This cute overalls style romper fits an extended size range allowing it to “grow” with your child. This pattern offers three Grow-With-Me sizes of 3-12 months, 1-3 years, and 3-6 years. The sizes adjust through the use of snaps on the straps, hidden drawstring sides, and foldable cuffs, which means each one you make can last years in two of the cases.
This Grow-With-Me romper pattern is a great way to use your favorite knit fabrics because your child will be able to wear the romper for such a long time. Grow with me clothing is a great way to build a sustainable handmade wardrobe for your child.
This pattern is easy enough for a confident beginner to complete, which is confirmed by the designer’s many happy customers.
What you will need to make a Grow With Me Romper:-
- Stretchy Knit fabric with at least 50% stretch and good recovery (recommend 95% cotton 5% spandex).
Fabric requirements (for 60” width fabric):-
3–12 months = 3/4 yard.
1–3 years = 1 yard.
3–6 years = 1 1/4 yard. - A scrap of woven fabric for reinforcement (8” by 8” piece) or woven interfacing.
- Four to six sets of snaps (approx. 5” of hook and loop tape can be substituted),
- Optional – approx. 1 yard of cording for drawstrings (cut in two), Stitch Witchery/ liquid stitch (for finishing serger chain off).
- Basic sewing supplies,
- Sewing machine with a stretch stitch (you can use a serger, but there is some topstitching, so a sewing machine would be necessary for that).

Lisa Donaldson said – Love love love this pattern! A huge hit with friends already. The instructions are very clear and even as a novice sewer I was able to whip this up on my first try 🙂
Rachael said – Turned out super cute. I added snap buttons to the crotch for diaper changes. Great pattern and very easy to follow. The instructions were very well thought out and makes it so even the beginners could follow along. Thanks for this pattern! It was a lot of fun.
Gemma said – I’ve never sewn anything other than face masks before. So so so happy with this romper! Pattern was outstanding, very easy to understand for a complete beginner like myself. Thank you 😍
Carly Palacios said – This pattern is AMAZING! I have been looking for adaptive clothing for my nephew who has special needs and I had a few requirements, such as 1) high armholes and no crotch snaps (to minimize diaper access), 2) adjustable length in some manner (skinny boy with long arms and legs), 3) usable in winter and summer, and 4) fairly cheap to create. This pattern fits ALL my requirements! Each romper takes about 3 hrs (from cutting to completion), probably faster if you have less distractions, and I have already made one for my nephew as well as more for expecting friends. The instructions are super clear and easy to follow and there are no difficult steps. Genius construction and smart layout of the paper pattern. Thanks so much!
