FREE Newborn Baby Hat sewing pattern
Here’s a FREE sewing pattern for a Newborn Baby Hat.
The designer Jess of Silo & Sage has five boys so over the years she has had a lot of practice making hats for her little ones. Generously she has given all of us this pattern for FREE, which you can download by clicking on the link at the end of this post.
Jess says that – Baby pants are among my absolute favorite things to sew for babies, and I decided my baby also needs some matching hats! I have a free hat pattern to share with you, so all the babies in your life can be covered from head to toe. Baby hats are a necessity for a fall or winter baby, and knit hats are just so cute and cozy.
This Newborn Baby Hat pattern is super quick and easy to sew, and you only need less than 1/4 yard of knit fabric, so you can sew up a cute hat and at the same time use up some scrap fabrics.
You’ll notice that her latest baby hadn’t arrived so she used an old doll of hers to model the hat. It’s obviously a little big for the doll, but will be perfect for your baby!

What you will need to make a Newborn Baby Hat:-
- Less than 1/4 yard of knitting fabric,
- Thread,
- Scissors or a rotary cutter,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A serger or sewing machine that can zig-zag.
