Caprice Girls Capelet FREE sewing pattern
|This is the Caprice Girls Capelet FREE sewing pattern from the designer Treasurie.
We agree with the designer when she says The Caprice Girls Capelet with its shabby-chic look is sure to impress whether for party or play. One size fits most girls aged 3 to 10.
This project is perfect for light to medium-weight, non-stretch washable fabrics. It looks great in cotton and cotton blends. The designer made her cream capelet with calico and the pink capelet from quilting cotton.
You should note that if you are going to leave the edges of the ruffles raw like the designer’s samples then you should check that the fabric rips easily. Densely woven fabrics usually rip well.
The designer suggests that you pre-wash your fabrics in case it shrinks. If you use a light-colored fabric make sure any contrasting fabric is colorfast so it doesn’t run on the lighter fabric when you wash your capelet.
You’ll need ½ a yard of fabric for the capelet (0.45 m), ¼ a yard of fabric for the ruffles (0.25 m), and you’ll also need 42 inches (1.05 m) of ½ inch (12 mm) ribbon for the neckties.
The designer has included in the pattern seam allowances of ½ inch (12 mm) are included in the pattern. She also recommends backstitching at the beginning and end of all seams and ruffles to secure the stitching.
When you download the free pattern you’ll notice that the pattern pieces print on 8.5″ by 11″ (letter) or A4 paper. You can check your pattern has been printed in the correct size by measuring the two-inch (5.1 cm) test square. Each page is marked with a number 1 to 6, and there are 3 rows of 2. You should tape the edges of the boxes together, trimming where necessary.
The written instructions to make this lovely Gym and Dance Shrug can be found on the designer’s blog which you can find HERE.
