Any Size Knit Playdress FREE sewing tutorial
|This is the Any Size Knit Playdress FREE sewing tutorial from the designer Sew Can Do.
The designer sews with knits more than anything else. This sewing project was inspired by the knit play dresses seen at European shops like Hanna Andersson and Boden.
It great to pair up a pretty print fabric with a comfy loose style dress. And the designer will show you how to make the pattern for this Knit Playdress in any size you want. And what is even better is that it’s easy to do.
This Knit Playdress has a very classic and yet casual look that’s can be worn alsorts of places including the playground.
The designer says the neckline binding is done using the main fabric for a professional looking finish. The sleeves are part of the bodice to shorten construction time and have a fold-up cuff for a little extra detail.
The designer says in the example shown the knit fabrics were 95% cotton+5% spandex with a 50%, 4 way stretch and 60 inches wide. They’re medium weight (5.6oz sq yd, so about 9.3oz per actual yard) and have a nice recovery, so they work well for all sorts of projects. She found the shrinkage was minimal and the quality very good.
What’s needed to make a Knit Playdress:-
- ½ yard knit fabric for the bodice,
- ½ yard knit fabric for the skirt,
- Loose fitting t-shirt to trace,
- Tracing paper and pencil,
- Optional: Walking foot, paper backed fusible tape,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
The amount of fabric needed will obviously depend on the size you choose. The amounts shown above made a girl’s size 7 Knit Playdress.
