FIJI Sunsuit FREE sewing pattern (+ video)
This is the FIJI Sunsuit FREE sewing pattern from the designer DIY Crush.
The designer says that this free sunsuit pattern is perfect for kids up to size 6! It’s a must-sew for hot days.
The FIJI Sunsuit features a fitted bodice and has elastic in the back. There is no shirring, just regular band elastic! It ties behind the neck and the legs are short with elastic added which makes them look ruched. This creates a cute effect if you are looking for a bit of a change to regular shorts.
Some comfy elastic around the legs make the shorts into a cute bubble. You can omit them if you like but the designer thinks it looks adorable with it.
The designer rates her sewing project as suitable for beginner to intermediate sewers, depending on if you are going to add the pompom trim and/or snap button tape. Both are optional features.
Originally the designer offered a free sunsuit pattern for babies up to size 6 but it was only a video. Videos are great for visual learners. You can pause whenever you need and scroll back if you need to read something again. You can watch the construction of the original Fiji sunsuit pattern with pom pom trim by clicking on the play button below:
However, the designer said that many of you loved it and asked about a picture tutorial which the desiner has now produced. For this tutorial she actually used a gorgeous kit that “Fabric Fix” gave her to work with. The kit has four cuts of amazingly beautiful Art Gallery fabric from the Millie Fleur line.
What’s needed to make a FIJI Sunsuit:-
- Cotton fabric or any other lightweight fabric,
- Band elastic,
- Trim for the bodice is optional,
- Trim for the waist as seen in the video,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine. A serger is optional.
